Species at Risk

SPECIES AT RISK (SAR)

In the Rural Municipality of Stuartburn we are fortunate to live in an area that has a balance of modern living while still having a feeling of what was once; a slower pace of life. Living in this rural area we are lucky to live alongside an abundance of nature. In the RM of Stuartburn we are proudly a leader in agricultural practices that have shaped our province and led to many benefits. With the changing of our landscape that comes with these practices, we must adapt to keep our area wild.

In Manitoba there are 59 species listed as Species at Risk (SAR). In the RM of Stuartburn we are in the range of 28 listed SAR. This list includes rare flora and fauna, some of which are found nowhere else in Canada.

A SAR is considered a species that needs special care and management to keep the Manitoban population from disappearing. In Manitoba there are many organizations, programs and people who are working hard to ensure that the SAR get the fighting chance that they deserve.
