2020 JUNE AND JULY HEAVY RAINS

Recent severe rain events have caused flooding in some areas of Manitoba. If your property was impacted, you may be wondering what to do.

Firstly, make sure you follow the instructions of local authorities. If you have been evacuated, only return to your property when instructed that it is safe to do so.

At this time, it has not been determined if a Disaster Financial Assistance program will be established for this event. You may complete an application for assistance at any time, the information you provide in your application will help the Manitoba government to determine how best to support Manitobans in their recovery from this event.

There are some very important things you must do to document your impacts from this event:
  • Take pictures of all damages to your property and any repairs made as inspections can take some time to happen.
  • Take action to reduce the impact of the damage to your property (clean, strip and dry property and goods quickly).
  • Contact your insurance provider. Government assistance does not pay for damages that can be insured and does not top up insurance.
  • Keep records of invoices, receipts and any records of repairs made. Keep records of any time you spend cleaning up your property as well.
